На примере государств третьей волны демократизации проверено предположение о том, что парламентаризм в большей степени способствует консолидации демократического режима, чем президентство. Концепция пяти арен Хуана Линца и Альфреда Степана предлагает более тонкий инструмент анализа комплексного политического феномена консолидации, дальнейшее использование которого может дать ответ на вопрос о незавершенности транзита во многих новых демократиях. Полученные результаты отчасти подтверждают гипотезу, но различия между государствами третьей волны оказались слишком значительными для того, чтобы утверждать это однозначно.

The sample of third wave democracies was used to test if parliamentarianism fosters democratic consolidation. Elaborated by Juan J. Linz and Alfred Stepan concept of five arenas suggests a more fine approach to the complex phenomenon of regime consolidation. Operating consolidation according to this template could help explain the reverse transformation in new democracies. Research results partly support the original idea, but diversity in the third wave democracies warns against more definite confirmation.
