Статья посвящена анализу неудовлетворительного функционирования политических институтов современной Румынии, формально соответствующих всем критериям ЕС. Основной источник «ловушки дурного правления» (П. Кольер) автор видит в конкуренции со стороны клиентелистских сетей, складывавшихся в течение длительного исторического периода и устоявших в ходе демократического транзита благодаря сохранению социально-экономической и культурной базы неотрадиционализма.
