Cognitive metaphor theory is rather popular instrument among Russian political scientists. However its implementation has been rather quick and not deep enough, that led to a number of problems in contemporary political studies. The article deals with algorithms of studies developed in Russian political linguistics and with how they relate to the basic ideas of the cognitive metaphor theory, it demonstrates the problems those studies face, and suggests possible ways of solving these problems from the perspective of the key provisions of the cognitive metaphor theory.

The paper describes the potential of corpus methods in the political discourse studies. The paper illustrates the advantages of corpus methods by providing five examples of corpus-based studies. The data extracted from The Corpus of NOW (News on the Web) is processed in order to compare the use and linguistic categorization of the concept politics in twenty varieties of the English language. The third example covers the emergence and usage of neologisms derived from Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s names during 2016 presidential campaign in the USA. The study of the new words can contribute to sentiment analysis of the mass-media political discourse during election campaign in the USA. Two small-size corpora - transcripts of D. Trump and H. Clinton’s 2016 election campaign speeches - are used for the analysis of the most frequent words and key words that reveal rhetorical strategies used by the two politicians to influence the audiences.

The article presents a review of the works of Russian political linguists, which have been written for the last two decades and examined various features of Presidents’ speeches. The article discusses the basic topics, methodological approaches, methods and perspectives of linguistic analysis of presidential discourse.

He paper investigates mental models which form a basis for graphic (multimodal) metaphors that were connected with the representation of people in American editions in the time that is traditionally called the Great Depression. The basic target of our investigation is formed by the representation of different social strata in America of that period. The methods of investigation are formed on the basis of conceptual metaphor theory, multimodal metaphor approach. As a result we’ve described transferred meanings, pun, decomposition of set-expressions and analyzed images that are deeply rooted in culture. All these form the basis for satire and irony in political cartoons of the given period.

The article discusses the role of social issues within the public discourse of Russian parliamentary parties. The reflection of social problems in the pre-election party’s rhetoric is analyzed from the positions of the political language. The analysis of texts, documents and other communicative resources demonstrates that all the Russian par- liamentary parties construct the uncharacteristic function of social security and charity with the aim of legitimization of power.

The paper studies contemporary problems of creolized texts connected with the methods of analysis of perception and understanding of a text by the reader. It is argued that most of the methods focus on the solution of applied tasks of reading. The urgent issues of creolized text psycholinguistics are described, among them: poly-code structure, strategies of perception and representation. We give an overview of research methods used for the analysis of creolized texts in Russian linguistics. The methods of psycholiguistic research of creolized text perception are discussed: instrumental means of neuro- and psychophysiological diagnostics and eye tracking technology. The goals of perception analysis are listed. The methods of creolized text meaning representation are given in the paradigm of cognitive structures. Qualitative (definition of the concepts, links based on association, adjacency or contrast) and quantitative (statistical) procedures of meaning representation by the reader are described.

The article influence of state power on the media in the area of family policy has been analyzed by the example of two cases - «Russian newspaper» and «Arguments and Facts». The time length of the study - 2000-2015 years. The theoretical basis - communicative theory of N. Luhmann. Comparing the media policy before the «Message of the President of the Russian Federation» in 2006 and after, the author concludes that the communication codes of the Russian media are derived from the communicative the code of the power.
