Честность выборов и явка избирателей в условиях авторитаризма

Аннотация

В статье рассматривается вопрос, как восприятие честности выборов влияет на явку в условиях авторитаризма. Делается вывод, что восприятие выборов как относительно честных способствует увеличению явки. Однако авторитарные режимы способны добиваться высокой явки также посредством партийных механизмов и контроля над СМИ. Сочетание относительно честных выборов и высокого уровня авторитаризма может привести к снижению явки, поскольку способствует распространению среди оппозиционно настроенного электората абсентеизма как рациональной стратегии протеста. Воздействие нарушений на выборах на поведение избирателей обусловлено способностью последних распознавать эти нарушения.
